ABOUT
Overview of CultureShock NGO
CultureShock NGO was founded by Dahlia Neiss as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It serves as a way to connect various communities through a shared experience, allowing for a cultural exchange for everyone involved.
Started in Washington D.C. and now expanding in Los Angeles, CultureShock NGO creates programming in communities that experience historical marginalization and disenfranchisement. We partner with several organizations, some of which include Safe Place for Youth, Global Home Boy Network, Shields for Families, the Anthony Bowen YMCA and more. Our current programs include Surfing, Rock Climbing, Camping, and Dance.
Overall, the goals of our programming include immersing youth in activities not readily available to them, introducing youth to activities in the arts and nature, and promoting positive changes in mental and physical health. Our programs typically meet on a weekly basis and focus on technical skills, mentorship, personal growth, and leadership development. Our hope is that the youth stay involved in our programs as they continue to grow. Upon graduating, participants are invited to continue to pursue programming at a more professional level and are also given the opportunity to become program leaders.
